The Roger Building, once the old Recycler building located in Silverlake, Los Angeles, was a project that fell from the sky and landed in my lap in 2004. The 13,000sf commercial building had been empty for some time before it was purchased by my then-current employer. It was a mess inside. I had the interior almost completely gutted and designed a new floor plan that was to house the record label I worked for and offer a variety of office/studio spaces for lease. Everything was replaced: new electrical, new plumbing, new HVAC, new floors, walls, ceilings, etc. The rebuild took a miraculously short 3 months! At which point the record label (CMH Records, Inc.) moved in while the finishing touches were put in place. The building is now fully leased with great tenants such as the Silverlake Neighborhood Council, the Los Angeles PETA headquarters, Sotheby's Real Estate and a variety of other businesses. It was such a great and challenging project to work on that I have now begun to study architecture just so I can do it again.
